Lave Prize Fund
Charlie Lave can no longer be present to remind us of the value of
clear, creative thinking, writing, and the uses of empirical data. In
recognition of the role Charlie played in shaping social science
modeling, including through his classic book written with Jim March
(An Introduction to Models in the Social Sciences), the Economics
Department will establish an endowment in Charlie’s memory, the
Charles A. Lave Paper Prize for the most Creative Modeling in Social
Sciences. The prize will be awarded for papers that display creative
use of clear models (theories), and point to, or include, data that
permit the models to be evaluated. The prize is open to papers in all
social and behavioral sciences disciplines-whether the work is
qualitative or quantitative (informal or mathematical).
Please join us in honoring Charlie and encouraging creative modeling
expressed in clear writing. You may give to this memorial fund by
